13 Hours: A Story Of Bravery Against All Odds

13 Hours: A Story Of Bravery Against All Odds

Went to see 13 Hours with my son and WOW…what an awesome movie! This movie, based on the book ’13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened In Benghazi’, tells the story of real life heroes and an important view of the events that occurred on the ground in Benghazi on the night of September 11, 2012. The action and the visuals pull you into the story making you feel like you’re right there next to these brave men, but the movie also does a great job at tugging on your emotions as you experience the sacrifice these men on the made.

I want to focus my commentary on the relationships and the survival of the six men of the CIA-contractor security team, known as the Global Response Staff (GRS), instead of taking aim at the political firestorm that Benghazi has created or the debate over Hollywood versus history.

If I had to sum up this movie in three words…

Living Life Or Chasing The Wind. The Choice Is Yours!

Living Life Or Chasing The Wind. The Choice Is Yours!

With no winners in Saturday night’s (January 9, 2016) record $949.8 million Powerball drawing, the next jackpot could reach an estimated $1.3 billion, said lottery officials. The Powerball is at an all time high and there is an excitement in the air.

Before you get caught up in all the excitement and the whispers of wealth, take a moment and give the second chapter of Ecclesiastes (written by a guy who had it all) a good read through. Sure, we can pursue material things in life (and most of us do) and yes, when we loose our stuff (and we will) — much of it can be found again. But there is one thing that’s really tough to find again once you loose it: LIFE!!

Seriously, will your life really be better if you win? …maybe for a time.

Whatever chapter of life you’re in right now, remember we will all face that day when the last curtain falls.

On that day, what will you remember?

On that day, what will you wish you had more of?

Lets dig into this a bit more…

Can One Person Make a Difference?

Can One Person Make a Difference?

Being Fall in New Hampshire, I spent most of the day in the yard blowing leaves into the woods and winterizing my summer equipment. As late afternoon approached and the daylight started retreating, I decided to call it quits and head in to grab something to eat and watch some TV. Of course I couldn’t find anything of interest to watch on my hundred channel cable listing, so decided to see what was on On-Demand.

Was all caught up on my favorite shows, so decided to check out what was on HBO. At first nothing caught my eye until I say McFarland USA and after a quick trip over to IMDb to see what this movie was about, I decided to watch it. McFarland, USA is based on a true story and an inspiring sports drama starring Kevin Costner about an unlikely group of high-school runners competing in 1987 California.

Kevin Costner plays Jim White, a high school football coach with a history of losing his temper coaching and getting fired. Because of his track record any new job opportunities become harder to get that he has no other choice to accept an assistant coaching position at a small town school in McFarland, California. Jim packs up and moves his whole family into the poor farming town of McFarland and soon regrets his decision. McFarland, which is predominantly Hispanic, was not the suburban neighborhood Jim wanted for his family, but his wife convinces him to stay and give it a go.

Men, It’s Time To Take A Stand Against Pornography!

Men, It’s Time To Take A Stand Against Pornography!

I have a question for you. If I told you, as a Christian man, that I had used pornography for its intended purpose, would you be more shocked that I had used it, or that I had admitted to it? I think we all know the answer to that one.

Pornography in America is big business. It’s everywhere. In fact, it’s invading, to the point of actually becoming part of, the very core of American culture, and it’s tearing this country apart. Many have come to think of it as so out of control, it’s beyond the realm of possibility to even think about reining it in. I disagree.

For years the teachings we’ve heard on pornography, what few sermons we’ve heard, and scientific studies that have come out on the subject, have focused on the harmful effect of it on the body, the marriage, the family, and the general degradation of morality in our society. While all these things may be true, the best efforts of the most well-meaning people out there have had very little, if no effect at all on the spread of it. The reason for this, in my humble opinion is two-fold.

First, it hasn’t been seen for what it truly is, and therefore, hasn’t been taken as seriously as it should have been. Secondly, good people have very simply remained silent; A lot of this having to do with our own shame in using it ourselves.

What Most Millionaires and the Apostle Paul Have in Common

What Most Millionaires and the Apostle Paul Have in Common

Have you ever desired to make millions? After all, having tons of money comes with tons of benefits right?

Having money gives you freedom. You can go do things that most people can’t afford. You can also give away all the money you make if you want.

If you don’t have to spend all day every day working to “make a living,” money can provide time to spend with your family. Having lots of cash can even buy you the time to go on missions trips. It provides you the opportunity to serve Jesus in ways many people cannot.

My Goal

Well, I have a desire to make millions. Here’s why:

The most critical need of the church at this moment is men, bold men, free men. The church must seek, in prayer and much humility, the coming again of men made of the stuff of which prophets and martyrs are made. -A. W. Tozer

Cool Scripture

If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan? -Jeremiah 12:5 (NKJV)
