We now live in an ‘on demand’ society and we get caught up in the jet stream of life. Even though we are connected more than ever as a global online community, we are now more dis-connected than ever from a relational perspective.
What has all this technology done to erode personal relationships? People-to-people interactions?
I grew up in a time when you had to get off the couch to change the TV channel and there was a phone in every room. Computers were just starting to appear and MTV only played music. I remember playing outside with my friends. We rode our bikes, our big wheels, went fishing or built a tree fort. I could go on and on…
We need to intentionally put aside time to ‘unplug’ for family time, time with our friends or others. Being connected might be OK in moderation, but I sense that the younger generation, our kids, just don’t know how to ‘look up’.
So I ask you, what is the real cost of all this “connectedness”?
Are you ready to look up?
