How To Take Charge Of The Mediocrity In Your Life

Have you said or heard any of these before?

I hate my job. I hate my life. I hate my choices. I hate my future. My relationships suck. Fill in the blank ______. Come to think of it…I hate everything!

Do you find yourself in any of these places, right now?

The big question staring those who find themselves in these places is…why don’t we change? We put so much energy and effort into complaining about our current circumstance, but we put none into changing it. We convince ourselves that this is hand we’ve been dealt and the conversation stops there. It’s never going to get any better and we drag these anchors around with us where ever we go!

Have you ever asked yourself how did I get here? or how did I become this? Have you ever really taken a deep dive in to reality of your life and wondered how you’ve become so bland?

We are so desperate for life but we are so afraid to live! So what do we end up doing?

We choose a life of quiet desperation, we choose to just exist, we choose “the average” and we settle for living in the status quo. Sound familiar? Is this you?

Here s some advice…

If you hate your job? Find another one, do something else!

If you hate your life? Choose a different one!

If you hate your choices? Make better ones!

If your future looks depressing? Create a new future!

If your relationships suck? Look in the mirror and change yourself!

If you hate what you’re doing, do something different! If you hate who you are, change!

Stop blaming your current circumstance on everything else. Get off of your pity potty and move forward!

I know all too well that this is easier said than done, but God can move you from where you are in your current circumstances to a much better place if you let Him walk it out with you. I share this perspective in this excerpt from my book:

It is during this time when the enemy’s footholds of unbelief, hopelessness and self-pity consume our thoughts that there is no way out. Remember, there is a way out and there is hope!

We can come out of our hiding places and find a place of grace with all our imperfections, so the life He has given to each of us can be released! Come out from under all the weight of your mistakes and open up your broken heart to Him, release your life to Him. He became broken for you and no one knows how to love more than He does. He can put all the broken pieces of your life, of your heart back in place and shine reflections of forgiveness upon you. He can take all of your mistakes, every scar, and every tear and redeem it into something beautiful!

I was lost within the hopelessness of an empty heart and was crushed by chains of shame, but His awesome love, forgiveness, and grace set me free. All my pain, all my shame, and all of my tears have been wiped away! His hands of love touched and healed my broken life! The sun is shining again, my story is being rewritten, and all my dreams can now come true. It’s time to leave the past behind and walk with Him into a new beginning.

The trials of life can bring a heart to the abyss of despair, creating an emotional and spiritual death at our core. The brokenness of my heart was not the stinging pain of loneliness and hurt as much as it was the harsh energies of bitterness, anger, and hatred. Sadly, my heart became more and more broken over time and I somehow lost the joy of life. Truth be told, sometimes I imagined the pain of death more manageable than the perpetual shredding of my heart. But in order to stand amid the battle, we must fight to keep all the pain from turning into a voracious cancer that destroys the heart and prevents us from loving well.

My hope was found in the wonderful, loving God, who walked with me, held me, gave me the courage to face my pain, and offered a promise that resulted in a transformed heart and a joy that overwhelmed the midnight of my soul like a sunrise scattering the darkness. What the enemy could not take from me was hope. The enemy had lost the battle.

God can move us into hope. God can move us out of of our mediocrity or status quo. God can move us from where we are.

We have become satisfied living in a state of existence and refuse to take the risk to live. With God, we can become as bold as lions to face what’s in front of us.

The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

—Proverbs 28:1

Look this is scary for most and I get that. There things that you are afraid of right now, some in plain view and some that are lurking in the shadows. We become paralyzed by our fear of the unknown that we end up living a life too safe, too secure, too protected and too comfortable. We are so afraid of the battle if we step out with courage and faith…and what we don’t believe is that God has already won the battle!

Take that step of faith with God and begin to live fully alive, today!
