I was reading a book recently and came across this:
The missionary E. Stanley Jones once met with Gandhi he asked him, “Mr. Gandhi, though you quote the words of Christ often, why is that you appear to so adamantly reject becoming his follower”
Gandhi answered, “Oh, I don’t reject your Christ. I love your Christ. It’s just that so many of you Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
Sobering…
It breaks my heart that we who call ourselves Christians judge and beat people over the head with His word and even worse…our lives just don’t demonstrate what we say! How about we begin by loving people! Love them, love them more and keep loving them until they pause and ask why?
Then tell them why!
Tell them your story of how an amazing loving, forgiving and graceful God changed your life. God is at work, so be patient for the invitation. The truth of the gospel will always find a way when the time is right!
I think we forget the core of the gospel message. In matters of love you can’t send someone else – you need to go yourself! This is the true gospel – that God is relentlessly pursuing us with his love. This is why God stepped into human history as a man. That’s why Jesus is God Himself who walked among us, because in matters of love you have to go yourself! Jesus came to us, engaged us, and pursued us. He bled for all mankind sacrificing Himself to set us free, to set the record straight and to pave the way for relationship with God Himself – because He loves us that much!
