My Daily Reading List

My Daily Reading List

I was reading ‘My Daily Reading List: An Update’ by Michael Hyatt which gave me the inspiration to share my own daily reading list. Using the format he offered in his post, here goes…

I don’t always have the time, but I love to read. My day includes reading through news, blogs, reddit, Twitter and my favorite books. All in all…I probably invest somewhere in the neighborhood of two hours a day reading.

Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.

 -Harry S. Truman

I have a long but beautiful ride through the mountains to work each morning so I typically listen to a Podcast while driving. Throughout the day I will read my daily devotionals that I’ve subscribed to via email and peruse social networks and news sites. I don’t always get to read before bed, but I often try to get an hour of reading in before I fall asleep.

People have asked me to share whats on my daily reading list, so here goes…

First and foremost I read my Bible, typically via my mobile device or a daily reading plan! I also subscribe to a handful of daily devotionals that I receive vie email and they include:

  • ‘Daily Reading’ by Ransomed Heart Ministries – John Eldredge
  • ‘Harvest Daily Devotion’ – Pastor Greg Laurie
  • ‘Today God Is First’ by Marketplace Leaders – Os Hillman

There are several things I read via my web browser and they include:

  • The Bongino Report
  • The Wall Street Journal Online
  • Breitbart News
  • Weather.com

I don’t spend lots of time on this reading list and I typically read through these at a quicker pace. Sometimes, I can get my daily news in 15 minutes in aggregate throughout the day. If an article looks like it will take longer than the time I currently have, I will bookmark it or I save it in Evernote. btw…I love Evernote and use it ALL THE TIME!!!

[Updated 2016] Yeah I used to use Evernote, but with the new premium rates now inline with Office 365 Personal, the decision to switch was a no-brainer. Check out this article from Lifehacker, ‘How to Jump Ship From Evernote and Take Your Data With You’ if you’re thinking about bailing on Evernote for Microsoft OneNote!

When I finish my web list, I go to my list of RSS feeds. I am currently using Feedly for Chrome and Android, which syncs with Google reader. The interface is pretty cool and I can access my feeds anywhere and anytime.

I am still building my list of feeds, but here are some of the more interesting ones (updated April 22, 2019):

In the evening, I do my best to read books via Kindle or a good old hardcover/paperback. I am usually reading three books at a time and bounce back and forth. Some of the genres I read are leadership, history (love the American Revolution period) or a Christian book. Check out the store on Heartstone Journey for my current reading list and some of my recommendations.

Cool Scripture

If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan? -Jeremiah 12:5 (NKJV)
