Social Media Timeline

Was reading “The History Of Social Media” over on Dustn.tv and thought it would be cool to share where I find myself on this timeline.

Where would you place yourself on the timeline? At what point did you jump in and start the internet?

Although its not on this info-graph, I have a confession to make…I started using the internet back in the early 90’s with a product called Internet in a Box by Spry, Inc. It had gems like the first version of the Mosaic web browser and search tools such as Gopher, Archie and Veronica! Oh yeah, I almost forget…I used a 56K dial up modem!

Oh yeah, I didn’t have Google growing up for search. I used search engines such as Lycos and Alta Vista. They were the big kids on the block.

I never plunged into MySpace at all and didn’t setup my Facebook profile until June of 2008. Even when Facebook really took off I really didn’t start using it for years afterwards until I launched my first blog.

I jumped into Twitter in May of 2008 and seemed to use it more heavily than Facebook. To this day I am a heavy Twitter user not only for my Heartstone Journey blog, but also us it to follow conferences and major events. Not sure what your thoughts are on this, but I seem to get the news headlines on Twitter before the major networks broadcast it.

When Google+ was first released as a beta as an invite-ONLY network I jumped right in and it has become my preferred social network of choice mainly due to the higher levels of community engagement. I currently focus most of social media presence here, with Twitter as a very close second.

The level of engagement dropped of significantly for me on Facebook since they launched timeline. What has your experience been with this?

Well, enough about my trip down the social media memory lane timeline…how about you?

When did you jump into the social media timeline?

Do you use Facebook, Google+, Twitter or some other other social network?

What has your experience been and what is your favorite social network?

One of life’s greatest ironies is that we try so much to avoid the challenges and pitfalls, only to realize these are the very things which forge our character. -Tim Young

Cool Scripture

Don't be afraid, I've redeemed you. I've called your name. You're mine. When you're in over your head, I'll be there with you. When you're in rough waters, you will not go down. When you're between a rock and a hard place, it won't be a dead end - Because I am GOD, your personal God, The Holy of Israel, your Savior. I paid a huge price for you...That's how much you mean to me! That's how much I love you! I'd sell off the whole world to get you back, trade the creation just for you. -Isaiah 43:1-4 (MSG)
