Life Is A Beautiful Struggle

Life Is A Beautiful Struggle

A colleague of mine let me borrow ‘Ragamuffin: the true story of Rich Mullins’ and wow did it wreck me in a very positive way.

Here is a quick synopsis from the DVD box:

Ragamuffin is based on the life of Rich Mullins, a musical prodigy who rose to Christian music fame and fortune only to walk away and live on a Navajo reservation. An artistic genius, raised on a tree farm in Indiana by a callous father, Rich wrestled all of his life with the brokenness and crippling insecurity born of his childhood. A lover of Jesus and a rebel in the church, Rich refused to let his struggles with his own darkness tear him away from a God he was determined to love. As he struggled with success in Nashville and depression in Wichita, Rich desired most of all to live a life of honest and reckless faith amidst a culture of religion and conformity.

As I was being drawn into the story with vivid similarities with my own life, minus the music success, I froze as the movie came to the scene where Brennan Manning was sharing a word with a church congregation. I couldn’t hold back the tears as this message went through me like a plow.

Here is that narrative by Brennan Manning…

How Safe Is Your Fence?

How Safe Is Your Fence?

Our story begins with the desire to step into the freedom that God has given us.

Here is the rub…in this freedom we were given the choice to choose the life we wanted to live, but overtime our choices cost us our freedom. On this path to freedom — life happens, control kicks in fueled by fear and our trust quotient with God is effected.

If you’ve stepped into the pages of God’s word you’ve most likely encountered phrases like these. “Fear not” or “Do not fear” or “Have courage”, etc.

Did you know that there are over 100 commands that Jesus offered up in scripture and 20+ of them are related to fear?

Lets start the conversation here…what are you afraid of and why are you afraid of it?

Do You Have The Courage To Stand?

Do You Have The Courage To Stand?

Are you a follower of Jesus Christ? Have you noticed an increase in the hatred towards Christians and God in the world around you?

Since writing my book Heartstone: A Journey Out Of The Midnight Of My Soul, I have taken my story to the social space such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. It didn’t take long for people to reveal their hatred towards God.

I posted this on Easter, take a minute to check out some of the comments.

How To Take Charge Of Your Life With Simple Math

How To Take Charge Of Your Life With Simple Math

Ever pause enough to notice that we often fill our lives with unimportant stuff? We seem to it find easier to simply go along with the status quo, which over time actually leads to a life of heart-numbing mediocrity…and we settle for something less than God’s best.

Sometimes we can’t even enjoy anything because we’re trying to do everything. Can you relate? Is this you?

Time and life pass so quickly. Anyone have kids? Have you noticed this passing of time seems to accelerate as the years fly by?

In comparison to God, we only have a minuscule slice of time to do something with our lives. Wouldn’t the logical thing to do in our little blip of existence to focus on what’s really important? Family, others, giving God glory or [fill in the blank]? Why don’t we?

What Redlining And The Sabbath Can Teach Us About Faith

What Redlining And The Sabbath Can Teach Us About Faith

Our lives are so busy and fast-paced that it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important. Is your life crazy busy? Is your schedule jam packed?

I recently listened to a series by Andy Stanley called “Breathing Room” and wow could I relate. Not having breathing room in my life almost cost me everything.

Breathing room is the space between our current pace and our limits.

 -Andy Stanley

I was addicted to a high paced lifestyle. I always looked for my value, my self-worth, and my identity with position and success — selling my soul to my work.
