Have you noticed that the demand for superhero movies is on the rise?
What if I told you that there is a “super hero” in real life. What if I told you he’s called a Dad.
Not just any dad. I am talking about a dad who hopefully stays married to his wife (I blew this one) and raises his children to follow God and to be responsible – a dad who is a Godly role model and leader in the home.
Ever pause enough to notice that we often fill our lives with unimportant stuff? We seem to it find easier to simply go along with the status quo, which over time actually leads to a life of heart-numbing mediocrity…and we settle for something less than God’s best.
Sometimes we can’t even enjoy anything because we’re trying to do everything. Can you relate? Is this you?
Time and life pass so quickly. Anyone have kids? Have you noticed this passing of time seems to accelerate as the years fly by?
In comparison to God, we only have a minuscule slice of time to do something with our lives. Wouldn’t the logical thing to do in our little blip of existence to focus on what’s really important? Family, others, giving God glory or [fill in the blank]? Why don’t we?
I love the scene from J. R. R Tolkien’s “The Return of the King” where Aragon is desperately outnumbered. He looks fear right in the eye and finds the strength to inspire his men against what seems like an almost certain defeat against the massive forces of the enemy. Standing firm and riding in front of his army, he declares,
I have in my files a copy of a letter written by Major Sullivan Ballou, a Union officer in the 2nd Rhode Island. He writes to his wife on the eve of the Battle of Bull Run, a battle he senses will be his last. He speaks tenderly to her of his undying love, of “the memories of blissful moments I have spent with you.” Ballou mourns the thought that he must give up “the hope of future years, when, God willing, we might still have lived and loved together, and seen our sons grown up to honorable manhood around us.”
Recently saw the new reboot of RoboCop with my son. Underneath the very cool special effects I noticed that there was a powerful theme emerging. This theme was was also in the original RoboCop.
