In today’s postmodern culture the meaning and image of true masculinity is seriously getting diluted, tainted, watered-down and completely lost. Unfortunately the narrative that’s being played out today is ‘boys in men’s bodies’ with only a few wanting to be men…but not exactly knowing how, while others remain nonchalant.
Wanted to share a collection of quotes that are some of my personal favorites to help you to kick your masculinity into gear!
How Poetry Can Reveal The Masculine Heart
One of the foundational pillars of Heartstone Journey is: Helping men discover their authentic manhood in Jesus Christ
If you Google ‘masculinity’ you will be presented with numerous definitions of what true manhood is. Yes, getting to the core of what manhood is includes the personification of courage, bravery and sacrifice…but many have bought into the narrative that these terms exclude the creative side of men.
To level set things…here is how authentic manhood is defined here on Heartstone Journey.
The Most Epic Quotes From Braveheart
Mel Gibson’s Braveheart is the story of the Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace who led revolt against King Edward I of England during the 13th century. Although some of the historical fact might have been infused with a bit of Hollywood license, the movie was nonetheless…epic! There were awesome battle scenes fought without relying on CG, there was the film’s romantic emotional-tugging soundtrack and the epic theme of courage.
Yeah, this is one of those inspiring movies that will watch over-and-over again, but one of most inspiring elements of the movie are the timeless quotes about freedom, passing the mantle, and epic courage. Here are some of my favorites:
Why “Real Men” Are Romantics At Heart
The big assumption on this topic is that romance is something exclusive to women, which doesn’t make much sense to me. When I think of a grand romantic gesture like a candle-light dinner at a nice restaurant or a surprise getaway, there’s usually a guy involved. Right? Ok think of it this way…in order for a woman to get whisked away for a weekend, someone has to be doing the whisking. Right?
Chick flicks, candle-light dinners and long walks on the beach may not be the first things that come to mind for a guy on the topic of romance, but many woman might be surprised how romantic a good man can be. Of course we like to hold our breath and puff out our chests to look strong, but despite our tough guy exteriors, women might be surprised to know that most men desire romance with the right woman — just not always the kind of romance women might have in mind.
Men like adventure and want to go out and do things together. Spending quality time and playing (get your mind out of the gutter) with their woman makes a guy feel close and loving and intimate; it offers an escape from the ordinary, a time to focus on each other — all things that women want from romance too. Right?
Live Life Without The Fear Of Death In Your Heart
I love a good war/military action movie and I’ve shared my thoughts on some of the more popular ones here on Heartstone Journey; Lone Survivor, American Sniper and 13 Hours to name a few. One movie that doesn’t get talked about much is Act Of Valor. Another great movie!
The story line written by Relativity Media via IMDb goes like this. An unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original film making, Act of Valor stars a group of active-duty Navy SEALs in a powerful story of contemporary global anti-terrorism. Inspired by true events, the film combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure. Act of Valor takes audiences deep into the secretive world of the most elite, highly trained group of warriors in the modern world. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt.
