The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.
We Are a Chip Off The Old Block
God gives Adam some instructions on the care of creation and his role in the unfolding story. It’s pretty basic, and very generous (see Genesis 2:16-17). But notice what God doesn’t tell Adam. There is no warning or instruction over what is about to occur: the Temptation of Eve. This is just staggering. Notably missing from the dialogue between Adam and God is something like this: “Adam, one more thing. A week from Tuesday, about four in the afternoon, you and Eve are going to be down in the orchard and something dangerous is going to happen. Adam, are you listening? The eternal destiny of the human race hangs on this moment. Now, here’s what I want you to do . . .” He doesn’t tell him. He doesn’t even mention it, so far as we know. Good grief—why not?! Because God believes in Adam.
Building The Bridge As We Walk On It
A little over four years ago my husband, Jeff, and I left traditional church ministry in California and started a coffee shop ministry in Hickory NC. We served in church ministry for years and at the time were on staff at a growing church of about 550 people. However, we’d felt something was really broken with church as we knew it and more and more people were disillusioned with church. At our own church the focus had changed once the new building was built. Concern turned to keeping up the property and having an impressive, polished, and even an “entertaining” service.

We have lost our story!
Think about walking on a road holding torn out pages from a book. Then you discover that these pages are the fragments of your own life story. The pages are torn and beaten up and we have no idea how to make sense of it all.
That describes most of us, doesn’t it?
* Interview starts about 25mins into the broadcast.
Men Wanted For Hazardous Journey
Ernest Shackleton’s Trans-Antarctica expedition of 1914 – 1917 is one of the most incredible adventure stories of all time. The goal of this expedition was was to cross the Antarctic continent from one coast to the other via the South Pole. In summary, the men on this adventure actually never set foot on continental Antarctica. On their journey they managed to survive the loss of their ship in the Antarctic pack ice during a season when there was no chance of contacting the outside world or of being rescued.
