America Has Spoken, Now Let The Healing Begin!

America Has Spoken, Now Let The Healing Begin!

America has spoken by choosing a new direction and different leadership…so hopefully we can set aside our differences and pray for President-Elect Donald Trump. I also pray that the Lord will give him the wisdom and courage to do what is truly right for America.

This election has been long, tough, very divisive and it’s time to put all that behind us. The tough reality, as a deeply divided nation, no matter who won there was going to be disappointment and anger. Hopefully we can shake off the dust, beat our partisan swords into peacemaking plowshares, shape our verbal spears into loving pruning hooks…and come together as Americans.

Some takeaways I wanted to highlight:

Where Is The Courage Of Patrick Henry Today?

Where Is The Courage Of Patrick Henry Today?

America is at a crossroads and I love to review history to get inspired from brave men and women who helped shape that history.

Recently I came across that famous speech from Patrick Henry which I’m sure you’ve heard, at least in title, called “Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death”.

Lets cover a bit of background first. The Second Virginia Convention convened in Richmond, Virginia – in what is now called St. John’s Church – instead of the Capitol in Williamsburg. Delegate Patrick Henry presented resolutions to raise a militia, and to put Virginia in a posture of defense. Henry’s speech was a call to arms but it also just shouts a spirit of courage. His words remind us that a just freedom can be held securely only by those who are willing to risk everything to preserve it. He urged his fellow Virginians to rise up uttering the timeless words: “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”

Why Our Next President Won’t Be The Hope We’re Looking For!

Why Our Next President Won’t Be The Hope We’re Looking For!

With a nation deeply divided, the political landscape continues to heat up. One camp rooting for Donald Trump and the other camp rooting for Hillary Clinton, with an almost radical zealot zeal.

Have you ever noticed that we as humans continuously want to find a “king”? This is what disturbs me about these political campaigns, especially the election of the next President of the United States. Sure we call the show politics and the players politicians, but deep down inside we are trying to find leadership — a king. You know all the signs advertising the person’s name and crowds are chanting the names of their king-to-be. It’s as if we are working to establish a kingdom here on earth. Of course we show our support for our king-to-be in a non-violent way (wink wink), most of the time. Are you tracking with me?

In a sense we are transferring power from one kingdom to another and inevitability time reveals that all kings end up being the same. They live for their kingdom and not for us, the voters.

There’s something odd about us, isn’t there? Let’s rewind the tape back to ancient times when the people of Israel wanted a king and God tries to debate with them on how bad of an idea this was. God basically tells them that they don’t know what their asking for, but gives them what they want anyways. Here’s the rub…there is something inside all of us that wants to worship something, but we always seem to choose a “king” rather than choosing God.

The Four Stones

The Four Stones

This is one of a handful of poems that you will find in Heartstone. Hope you enjoy.

The Four Stones

Here on my knees I cry out to You, my Lord.
Tear-stained, wounded by the choices I have made
Seeking the world’s view of success, coveting the award.
Got what I wanted; the dream shatters; it begins to fade.

Self-righteousness and pride, thinking I had all the answers.
Never giving in. Always my way; never able to compromise.
Convinced I could work things out…coming to my end, I admit I was wrong!
Needing a completing love, desiring to be whole, Lord, help me to rise!

Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. —1 John 2:15 (MSG)

This bitter darkness surrounds me, feeling so alone.
Reaching out for Him, faced with this choice now,
Again I cry out to Him, asking Him, How?

13 Hours: A Story Of Bravery Against All Odds

13 Hours: A Story Of Bravery Against All Odds

Went to see 13 Hours with my son and WOW…what an awesome movie! This movie, based on the book ’13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened In Benghazi’, tells the story of real life heroes and an important view of the events that occurred on the ground in Benghazi on the night of September 11, 2012. The action and the visuals pull you into the story making you feel like you’re right there next to these brave men, but the movie also does a great job at tugging on your emotions as you experience the sacrifice these men on the made.

I want to focus my commentary on the relationships and the survival of the six men of the CIA-contractor security team, known as the Global Response Staff (GRS), instead of taking aim at the political firestorm that Benghazi has created or the debate over Hollywood versus history.

If I had to sum up this movie in three words…
