Being A Dad Doesn’t End After Divorce!

It’s impossible to fully understand the sorrows of divorce unless you have journeyed through its dark valleys of anguish. I have learned that these valleys only yield a desolate emptiness to anything that was once close and dear. During the agonizing process of divorce, we do not have the capacity to clearly see that we are blindly making the choice to end a marriage, a family, and are starting a vicious circle that only erodes. People have no idea of the painful realities of what lies on the other side of the violent ripping of a one-flesh covenant God intended. Divorce is always destructive, and its ripple effects are far-reaching and long-lasting. No one would argue that love and intimacy are essential to any marriage relationship, but when we assume that love and intimacy alone will sustain a marriage is when problems begin to emerge. When we build sandcastles around our hopes, dreams, and expectations, it all is violently swept away when the tidewater comes raging in. This modern culture has reduced a God-given covenant between a husband and wife into a self gratifying contract, complete with terms, conditions, indemnification and an exit clause!

And who loses the most? The kids!

Listen to this power poem by Prentice Powell called “Good Father”. The poem dives into his personal experiences with custody battles, visitation rights, and the pain he feels when he’s away from his child.

Most divorces end with the kids staying with the mom, but kids need both parents. The courts need to understand that dads do have a voice, we care about our kids and dads do matter!

Do Dads Matter?

Do Dads Matter?

One of the foundational topics that’s shared on Heartstone Journey is fatherhood and being a dad. I was recently challenged by a friend on social media to take the “Do Dad’s Matter” challenge started by MochaDad. If there can be a viral outpouring for ALS, why not support of dads?

So, do dads Matter?

Finally, A Commercial That Promotes Fatherhood

Have you seen this ad from General Mills promoting the New Peanut Butter Cheerios?

It’s so rare these days to see a commercial that’s positive, uplifting and promotes fatherhood. Glad to see that General Mills stood for pro-fatherhood and pro-family in this commercial because being a dad is AWESOME!

Men, how do you ‘dad’?

Where Have All The Men Gone?

The film “Courageous” inspired men to commit themselves to their God-ordained responsibilities. “The Resolution” is the bold declaration they pledged to live out and hold each other accountable to.

Men: Don not watch if you want to be an “OK” father, husband and friend. Do watch if you want to be challenged to be great. I fall short, we all do, but I keep getting-up with the help of my brothers. It is never about us…

 -Jeff Boutin

So I ask you…where have all the men gone?

Men, run the race while you have breath and finish strong! Don’t be complacent. Don’t settle. Strive for greatness. Be better then the status quo.

Are you ready to man up?

What ‘Tron: Legacy’ Can Teach Us About Seeing What’s Right In Front Of Us

What ‘Tron: Legacy’ Can Teach Us About Seeing What’s Right In Front Of Us

As the illusions of this worldview spin around me out of time and frame, the walls of my tower of Babel crumble and fall! One could almost hear the demonic laughter and cheers coming from the darkness of the abyss as each stone smashes to the ground like hardened drops of rain.

It is always night when a man goes from Christ to follow his own purposes. It is always night when a man listens to the call of evil rather than the summons of good. It is always night when hate puts out the light of love. It is always night when a person turns his back on Jesus.
