Where Is The Courage Of Patrick Henry Today?

Where Is The Courage Of Patrick Henry Today?

America is at a crossroads and I love to review history to get inspired from brave men and women who helped shape that history.

Recently I came across that famous speech from Patrick Henry which I’m sure you’ve heard, at least in title, called “Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death”.

Lets cover a bit of background first. The Second Virginia Convention convened in Richmond, Virginia – in what is now called St. John’s Church – instead of the Capitol in Williamsburg. Delegate Patrick Henry presented resolutions to raise a militia, and to put Virginia in a posture of defense. Henry’s speech was a call to arms but it also just shouts a spirit of courage. His words remind us that a just freedom can be held securely only by those who are willing to risk everything to preserve it. He urged his fellow Virginians to rise up uttering the timeless words: “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”

All Hands On Deck…Man Overboard!

All Hands On Deck…Man Overboard!

The war on masculinity continues…

CoverGirl just hired its first cover boy, James Charles, a 17-year-old who just became the brand’s first “male” ambassador. The announcement was tweeted over social media introducing James as a “makeup artist, boundary breaker, and the newest CoverGirl with hashtag #COVERGIRLJames.

Instead of society hitting the pause button and shouting out, “Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute!!!”…it’s applauding the cosmetics giant CoverGirl for hiring makeup artist James Charles as its new “cover boy”. Our “progressive modern” culture shouts out through a megaphone that men are barbaric dumb oppressors of women. This culture is also empowering women to be independent in the workplace and at home without the need for men at all. Because men are becoming more passive to their God given roles and giving into societal narratives, it’s having devastating effects on boys — men are left searching for their place in society and boys don’t know where to turn.

We Walk As Lions

We Walk As Lions

Followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to live a life that actively demonstrates to others the worth of the gospel. If the Lion of Judah is running before you, let your life be a billboard for how valuable the gospel is and show that the effect it will have on the life of those who believe it is — fearlessness. Philippians 1:27–28 tells us to; “lead a life worthy of the gospel so that when I come I may find that you stand firm, unafraid of any of your opponents.” One of the ways that our lives can demonstrate the worth of the gospel is when the gospel makes “us walk as lions” — courageous and unafraid.

The righteous are the ones who trust in the Lord — the ones who have faith and place their hope on the mercy, power and wisdom of God. These are the ones who are free from fear. These are the ones whose hearts no longer condemn them (1 John 3:21). These are the ones that are right with God, because of His grace and not because of their merit. And their boldness with God (and with men) demonstrates the worth and the value of the gospel (Hebrews 4:2, 6).

Here’s a song from Skillet’s album ‘Unleashed’ to encourage you…righteous warriors of God!

Men Your Words Have Power, So Speak Life To Your Kids

Men Your Words Have Power, So Speak Life To Your Kids

First things first men. How much time are you spending with your kids? Doing life with them, having fun, teaching them whats important and leaving a legacy? If you spend quality of time with your kids, awesome. If you don’t, you need to get your head out of your @$$ and start.

For most men we have our sights set on stuff such as; a house (and a vacation home), car, boat, money, climbing the corporate ladder, fill in the blank ________. Most of us don’t leave much room for things that really matter and our values become our kids values.

Ok guys, here’s a test. You’re walking on the beach and a genie bottle washed up onto the shore. Of course all your senses tell you it’s not real, but you rub the lamp anyways out of curiosity and out pops a genie. Here’s the catch…instead of three wishes, the genie only gives you one wish.

What do you wish for?

What A Leper And Centurion Can Teach Us About Compassion

What A Leper And Centurion Can Teach Us About Compassion

It’s hard to do good for people who don’t deserve it, isn’t it?

We all have those people we work with or people in our families that we would rather punch in the face than give a minute of our time to. I bet you can name a few people right now that would you rather work around or completely remove from your life. Words like compassion, friendly, joy don’t seem to fit into our narrative with these so called toxic people. Right?

Am I making sense here?

This is a tension that many of us live with day in and day out. I wrestle with this too, but check out one of the story that Jesus invites us into. Remember the story of the Sermon on the Mount? You know, love your enemy, turn the other check and yup…even go the extra mile. Or, blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Before we walk this out…I’m not talking about justified self defense or protecting your family here.

Sounds great doing a study on the sermon on the mount or reading it in your daily devotional, but living out in real life…well that’s a quite a different thing all together. Well it gets better because Jesus brings it all in by ending the sermon with this, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

OK, let’s hit the pause button here. In the last couple of months using the sermon on the mount as the litmus test, are you a wise man or a foolish one?
